As social media marketing and usage increases the definitions of the law in regards to social media abuse will increase and become harsher. In many ways it is the same as in ‘real life’ working arrangements. You cannot simply go around ‘slagging off’ your boss or your company and expect not to be taken to task over it.
Social Media is not to be used for abuse or airing difference. It’s dangerous to both parties.
Bottom line- don’t put things into print about someone that you would not want them reading.
Helen walks through some specific cases of employees and employers using and abusing social media and the resulting court rulings. Definitely worth the read.
Let us know what you think about this in the comments. When should an employee be answerable to their company for their personal posts and tweets?

A large part of my job is to answer questions, and one we often get is how long it takes between when an article is published and when it hits Newsdesk. It varies, of course, but let’s look at a recent example.
On Tuesday, the eastern United States experienced an earthquake that occurred at 1:50pm EDT. 11 minutes later, stories about the quake were available in Newsdesk and the Metabase. We felt the rumbles pass through our Ohio office just a few short minutes before we finished processing the news about them. By the time we knew what had happened, so did Newsdesk.
Our development team is hard at work and every couple of weeks we release updates to Newsdesk. Here’s what we added most recently, based on your feedback:
1. Expanded search box
For complex or long queries, the previous search box just wasn’t cutting it. Meet our new expandable box that easily handles long search strings.
2. Customizable chart colors
When charting data from your saved searches, you can manually set the colors if you do not like the defaults.
3. More data to download
We have TRIPLED the amount of data you can download via our Analytics tab, so you can run more extensive analyses on your own.
Attention Newsdesk users! Moreover is starting a new, regular online training program for Newsdesk due to increased demand. We have 5 topics, and each one is covered at least once a week. No matter what your time zone, you should be able to find a session that is convenient for you.
Summarizing the overall layout and functionality of Newsdesk, including basic searching. Reviewing the main tabs to provide a good general grounding in all the tools in the application.

After users master basic searching in Newsdesk, this session will dig deeper into Boolean search, Advanced Search and the power of the Newsdesk Refinery’s faceted searching.
The cause of the blast was unknown but the tangled wreckage of a car was outside one building and the damage appeared consistent to witnesses with that from car bombs. Police and fire officials declined comment on the cause.
